Oh Barbara, I'm so sorry.... somewhere in all this is meaning, we just haven't seen it yet... I was so excited for you to have the opportunity to move to a full time job, but sometimes it doesn't sound like this boss is very supportive... Hang in there!! and I know you are doing everything you can for mom and dad, they'll be fine!!

Barbara, perhaps no news is good news if you don't hear from your parents? I know they are not doing well, but they also realize you have a job; I'm 100% sure they would call if something was up. In the meantime, I'm with Deb and her comment; I think I'd talk to your boss and share what's going on in your life

I would have told them, "Look, neither one of my parents are doing well, and I'm taking the next 10 minutes for myself to call and check up on them." I bet they would understand.
