I had a negative comment in my journal

When I first started my journal I was a waitress.  In one of my entrys I wrote some tips that helped me to improve my tips.  I thought I would be kind and pass my "knowledge" on to young new waitresses.  Today I had a negative comment in my journal about this entry.  Here is what she was negative about

 3.  Do it before they ask.  Have the check ready. Bring extra napkins to the table. Carry out all condiments they might desire

8.      Ask them if this is their first time to eat at your restaurant if you don’t know them and introduce yourself.  Ask them where they are from and suggest daily specials to them.

And here is what this person wrote in my journal. Also a little side note...when I went to see who it was she left no information about herself. So maybe she will read my journal... And here is what I have to say to you Spring.....you can please some of the people some of the time....but apparently there is no pleasing you.

Being sarcastic I would have to say you were my favorite type of customer NOT

We work very hard for our tips, and we are not your slaves. Most waitresses get 2.13 plus tips.

You do not own us.....we are taking care of you while you are at our restaurant.

If you don't want to tip cook your own meals at home, wash your own dishes and go shopping for all that food we prepare for you...

Okay here are her comments....made my day I must say:

"3. Do it before they ask."

I absolutely HATE when servers bring me a refill I haven't acknowleged I wanted.  I also HATE when servers bring you the check WITHOUT ASKING if you are finished.  Sometimes I am NOT finished.

(I thought you didn't want us to talk to you so how can we ask your majesty if you are done?????)

"8. Ask them if this is their first time to eat at your restaurant if you don’t know them and introduce yourself.  Ask them where they are from and suggest daily specials to them."

NO SMALL TALK.  I came into the restaurant to be with WHO I'M DINING WITH, NOT to make FRIENDS with the wait staff.  Don't introduce yourself, I'm NOT going to remember what your name is that's for sure.  I'd rather them just come to the table and say "May I start y'all off with something to drink?"  If you take up my time by WASTING IT, your tip will be LOWERED.  I came their to eat and drink as well as dine with the person or people I am with.  I DON'T want to know the wait staff or care to.  I am hungry and thirsty.  I want my food and drink as SOON as possible.  So taking a minute to talk about daily specials that I DON'T want is WASTING my time.  I don't want the waitstaff to know WHERE I'm from.  That is pretty PERSONAL information to give out to someone that is a STRANGER.  If the waiter or waitress wants to talk, do it AFTER the food order has been put into the computer not to DELAY someone's food.

"Dennis Riusa calls it the “part-time service mentality.” Most of you would prefer your waiters to be servers, not buddies. “I really don’t care what my waiter’s name is,” sniffs Chula Vista’s Olin Bjorsky. “I am not interested in what dishes the waiters and waitresses like,” says La Jolla’s Patricia Winter. Barbara; don't let it get you down. I am sure that there are people who enjoy going into people's blogs and leaving a negative comment because they are sick, sad people. I had one negative comment in my journal from someone. She, too, didn't have a profile; I did email her and told her she was entitled to her opinion and also asked if she had a journal. She emailed me back to comment on something I had written, but she didn't leave a link for a journal. I'm sure she was a "troll" someone who wanted to cause trouble.

You are a good waitress like you are a good cashier. I like the attentive of waitresses who did what you did when you were one of them.

Don't let her get you down and don't fall into her games of being negative back to her. I think people thrive on getting attention in that way.

It's people like her who get spit in their food!!

We went to The Olive Garden last night...had the sweetest waitress. By the time we left we knew she was a young lady putting her self thru medical school. we knew about the small town she was from and loved every adorable minute of her.

Some people just can't be happy if they aren't trying to make everyone else miserable. Ignore the idiot!  What goes around comes around...she will get hers one day.

I hope she gets lousy service, what a sourpuss.  The world would be a better place if everyone showed courtesty and kindness.
I guess being nice is impossible for some. Those were good tips, we tip according to the service we get.  I love having my drinks refilled and talking to people.

OH my gosh! What a "BEEP!!" I like a friendly waitress who shows interest in you and who always checks to be sure you have what you need that you always have your glass full, with your meal. Who get's your meals and service quickly and try's to do the best to serve you. They ALWAYS get a great well deserved tip. If they are rude, short or unfriendly it's an uncomfortable feeling. If they take a long time with getting your food or seem to make lots of mistakes with your order that can be frustating. But I can tell if a waitress is new and doing the best she can. That is all I ask. Be polite, try to get meals out in a timely fashion and just try to be a good hostess and you will be on my good list. But yes that lady was being RUDE! I like a waitress who talks and opens up. makes it a much better atmosphere. Sorry you had someone leave such an unpleasing comment. Take care!

It is your journal and you should not have to read their garbage.   Apparently they don't have a journal or readers and wanted to practice their typing skills and show what negative opinion's they have of people who rely on tips.   I will remember your information on waitresses wages the next time I eat at a restaurant.     mark

THAT PERSON(S) WHO COMMENTED ARE JUST THE TYPE YOU WANT TO ACCIDENTLY (LOL) DROP THEIR SOUP IN THE LAP.THE ADVICE YOU HAVE GIVEN FOR NEW AND YOUNG WAITRESSES WAS GREAT. IT HELPS TO HAVE SOME TIPS TO MAKE THE JOB A LITTLE EASIER. PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA JUST HOW HARD THE JOB CAN BE. HERE IS ONE TIP FROM ME,  BUY THE BEST PAIR OF SHOES YOU CAN AFFORD, YOUR FEET AND BACK WILL THANK YOU FOR IT LATER IN LIFE. CYNDY

"(I thought you didn't want us to talk to you so how can we ask your majesty if you are done?????)"

I am talking about idle chit-chat, NOT asking about food, drinks, etc.  Like one time a waiter at Applebee's decided to greet my husband and I by asking since it was Mardi Gras Day 2003(we live in New Orleans area) "How is y'all's Mardi Gras?" "Go to any parades?"  We had to wait 15 minutes to be seated ALREADY and he just wanted to delay us from ordering even longer to make small talk.  When it's that busy, DON'T make small talk.  Customers are hungry and thirsty.  At least wait until the orders have been placed.  That irritated me.  Not to be rude and risk getting spit in our food, we just answered the questions, but I really didn't care to honestly.  I like it when servers come to ask you what you'd like to drink, NOT to make small talk.  It's like GET ON with the service.  I wanted to say to him "Can we just order our drinks?"  I didn't because I didn't want to seem rude or mean, but I really didn't want to talk to him, I was hungry and wanted to order.  He DELAYED OTHER people's food as well as ours by making small talk.

"But apparently there is no pleasing you."

That is NOT true at ALL.  I've left 20%-26% tips a LOT of the time.  I've had PERFECT SERVICE as far as the way I see what is PERFECT.  Perfect service would be no mistakes and the server being attentive enough that you're not waiting 10 minutes for refills or your check.

Some of these people AGREE with me that they like it when a server ASK if they want another refill instead of the server ordering for them by bringing them a refill they didn't order.
